Best Values Under $15
Our Best Values Under $15 section is something that we take great pride in.
We started the section with several things in mind:
- Nothing over $15.
- We wanted to be able to recommend these wines with absolutely no hesitation.
- We wanted them to be something that would broaden our customers wine knowledge.
We do our best to feature unique and interesting wines at very fair prices. We tend to feature funky and esoteric wines that are off of the beaten path. If you are tired of the same old Cabernet, Chardonnay and Merlot routine, then this is the section for you. Planning a party or wedding? Stop by and speak to our wine staff and let us show you some interesting, affordable wines for your event.
What follows are a sampling of the many Best Values Under $15 that we feature in our shop:
Best Value Red Picks for Winter 2008
Bodegas Martinez Laorden El Talud Rioja 2004
This winery recently was established in the Spanish region of Rioja. The winery is constructed underground. Its owners call it “bioclimatic”. The main idea of the construction is that an underground winery is more efficient than an overland enterprise. All power for the winery is generated via solar panels and all water used at the facility is recycled to use in a nearby village. Made from 100% tank-fermented Tempranillo, this is richly flavored with black fruit notes, hints of spice and earth and finishes with good grip. For a nice mid-winter treat, fire up the grill and serve this with a nice steak and grilled veggies.
Chateau Jouclary Cuvee Tradition Cabardes 2005
The vineyards of the Cabardes cover a mere 500 hectares on the northwestern border of the modern Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, an area that runs up against the foothills of the Montagne Noire. The soil composition varies between chalky clay, limestone and rocky foothill terroir. The weather is largely dominated by the powerful wind currents of the region, the dry, Atlantic vent Cers and the warm, Mediterranean vent Marin. Made from a blend of Merlot, Grenache and Syrah this is richly flavored with dark black fruits, earth and garrigue notes and a black peppery spiciness. We like this with all manner of hearty, stick to your ribs meat and pasta dishes.
