At Wakefield Liquors, you can tell that summer is right around the corner from the fact that people we haven’t seen in nine months have been showing their faces around town. (And in the store.) We welcome you back to South County! There are many new wines, liquors, and beers in the store so feel free to ask your friendly sales associate for a new recommendation.
Another way to tell that summer is here is the fact that limes are gracing our front counter!
To help usher in the ceremonial beginning of summer, our friend Holly from Martignetti Companies of Rhode Island will feature wines from the Folie à Deux winery in Sonoma. On Saturday, Brian Martin from Johnson Brothers will showcase new Italian whites and a duo from Greece.

While the Brewery is having a hard time with the initial demand, they are brewing plenty and it will be here for the next few months so please, do not fret if you do not see any on the shelves when you come in.
In other local news, congratulations to the URI class of 2014. Good luck with all your future endeavors! And when you choose to drink something other than Burnett’s Vodka and Keystone Light, we have that too!

French, Italian and Spanish Wines
with Natalie Volpe
Chateau Graville-Lacoste Graves 2012
75% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle
This white Bordeaux has a bit more richness than most due to its high percentage of Semilon. Clay and limestone soil give this great minerality and make it the perfect pairing for shellfish and richer swordfish.
Corte Moschina Roncathe Soave 2012
Made from 100% Garaganega grapes at the foot of the Lessini Hills, this wine features notes of stone fruits and cantaloupe. It is round, smooth and fresh.
I Giusti & Zanza Nemorino Toscana Bianco
Straw yellow in color, this Tuscan white is a 50/50 blend of Trebbiano and Semillon. Floral and elegant with tropical and honey notes, this would go great with some chicken on the grill with an apricot glaze.
Montecillo Crianza Rioja 2010 $10.99
Montecillo Reserva Rioja 2008 $16.99
Both of these Spanish Riojas are 100% Tempranillo. The younger Crianza is fresher and more lively. The older Reserva is richer and softer. Come see which you prefer.
Monday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Friday & Saturday 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Sunday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season. I spent most of my Christmas day in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine, helping my eight-year-old put together a new Lego set. It was pretty cool.
But unfortunately, in this business, there is no time to relax and get emotional just yet. We have another holiday coming up next week!
We will have bubbles galore on Friday and Saturday, along with some other party favorite wines to pass around your dinner table. And since it is the last weekend of the year, we will be highlighting French and Italian wines, my perennial favorite grape growing countries.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Wakefield Liquors. Hopefully the unseasonably warm temperatures have helped you weather the increased traffic in town and help keep potential meltdowns away. I’m not sure where all these people are going but they sure are on the road!
If you need to take your mind off things this weekend, stop on by the WL. We will be featuring some great wines and there will be plenty of friendly staff on hand to help with your holiday selections. We also feature a variety of pre-made gift baskets when you don’t have the time to browse.
